Injured hiker rescued on Ben lomond

July 12, 2012

After about six and a half hours of searching, rescuers finally found an injured hiker who was lost around the Willard Peak and Ben Lomond area.

A church group out of North Ogden, consisting of two adults and three juveniles, went on a hike starting from North Fork Park Wednesday morning. They got lost, said Weber County Sheriff’s Sgt. Ryon Hadley.

Four of them regrouped around 3 p.m. and called for help to find their remaining member, a 53-year-old man, who had injured his knee and ankle.

The man had cellphone service but did not know where he was, Hadley said. Rescuers eventually found him around 9:30 p.m. on the back side of Ben Lomond.

He was flown off the mountain and taken to a local hospital for treatment.
