Vigil celebrates life of Dakota Kilburn

Hundreds of friends, community members and family gathered to celebrate the life of ninth grader Dakota Kilburn, 14, during a vigil Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at Syracuse Jr. High School.

Dakota died Tuesday after being struck by two vehicles as he walked in a crosswalk along 2000 West in front of the school on Monday night.

A roadside memorial was constructed near where Dakota was struck and several people spoke in memory of the teen, including Syracuse wrestling coaches. Dakota was a member of the wrestling team and the Syracuse Junior High School Singers. He also played football and was a fan of the Minnesota Vikings.
